Occupy Wall Street: A Revolution, Not a Protest, In Their Own Words

It's reasonable for people to insist on proof, especially for extraordinary claims, such as that people who say to media that they're merely doing peaceful protest in the style of Martin Luther King, are actually fomenting revolution.

That's why I created this Storify, showing explicitly, in their own words, that a large number of people participating in Occupy Wall Street indeed see it as a revolution, an attempt to overthrow the current governments of not only the United States, but all governments globally, as shown by their use of the #globalrevolution hashtag.

I did not put these people up to saying these things, these are their own words freely tweeted.  Read what they have to say and then make up your own mind as to whether the illegal camping and marching of people who support a literal revolution, bloodless coup or not, should continue to be tolerated in our cities.

    Definition 2a:
"a sudden, radical, or complete change"

    2c:
"activity or movement designed to effect fundamental changes in the socioeconomic situation"

    2d:
"a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something : a change of paradigm"

    2e:
"a changeover in use or preference especially in technology"

I'm not sure why you assumed that the word "revolution" automatically means that the protestors plan to overthrow the government, since there are so many definitions of the word.

It seems to me that Rev. Magdelen is asking us to take a very close look at exactly what the OWS movement actually wants. What would they replace our current system with? Do they even know? While the system
we currently have in this country is FAR from perfect, it is probably the best system around. I'm unsure that the Church of the SubGenius could have sprung up from any other system of government than ours.

After all our savior "Bob" was one hell of a salesman and what other system would support such a Slackful salesman as "Bob" than the one we currently have with all its imperfections?

It was an older HOS # 938 where Rev Ivan Stang said "I was on the internet with a bunch of the other SubGeniuses and we were all bitching and griping about the state of the world and the country and everything and they were going on and on about the usual overblown
stuff - Bush is just like Hitler (he hasn't killed the 6 million people yet but otherwise he is just like Hitler) what are we going to do about it - we are all going to be thrown into concentration camps and I said 'Dammit if you were serious, if you really honestly believe that being thrown in a concentration camp for not being a republican was right around the corner for you (which a lot of my knee jerk friends were saying) THEN YOU ARE A TRAITOR IF YOU DON'T GO TO WASHINGTON and MURDER THE EVIL PRESIDENT, well needless to say (thats a tricky thing to say in public by the way) my point was they were saying 'well thats kind of extreme'... The other option was to leave and go to another county where they have fewer laws [or a third option RUN FOR OFFICE] ...

Anyway, my point is that I think that is closer to what Rev Magdelen is asking us to consider. (not really running for office but use the system we already have - and VOTE)

No, I stand by Rev. Magdelen and her position on OWS and I ask you all to consider this: If a bunch of people started to "occupy" your home town and demand some major changes to your way of life without even considering what those changes really mean would you support them?

  3. Consider this: If a bunch of congressman occupy the capital via shady election laws and campaign financing, does that really mean I would support them?
